Ms Leanne Harvey

Ms Leanne Harvey joined the ARC in March 2008, transferring from the Department of Education, Science and Training due to Machinery of Government changes. 

Ms Harvey is the Executive General Manager of the ARC and is responsible for the Research Excellence and Corporate Services branches within the agency.

The Research Excellence Branch is responsible for providing evidence based policy analysis and advice relating to Australia's research system, in particular the quality of research undertaken in Australian higher education institutions through the Excellence in Research for Australia (ERA), with the aim of achieving a dynamic national research, science and innovation system in Australia.

The ERA initiative assesses research quality within Australia's higher education institutions and provides government, industry, business and the wider community assurance of the excellence of research conducted in Australia. It has provided a national stock take, by research discipline areas, of research strength against international benchmarks.

The Corporate Services Branch includes ARC communications, parliamentary, finance, human resources and facilities services.

Ms Harvey completed her education in regional NSW, graduating dux of her school, and holds a Bachelor of Business in Accountancy from Charles Sturt University. She joined the Australian Public Service in 1987 and her career has seen her lead a variety of interesting, challenging and important initiatives through the Superannuation Fund Investment Trust (an Office of the Department of Finance), the Australian Taxation Office, the Child Support Agency, the Department of Education, Science and Training.

Ms Harvey enjoys and has extensive experience in stakeholder management. She has worked on high-profile Government issues such as public sector performance and conformance frameworks, business improvement, tax reform and child support reform.
