What is GAMS
GAMS allows researchers requesting funding under the ARC National Competitive Grants Program to prepare and submit proposals electronically via the internet, assessors to record scores and comments for each proposal, and researchers to respond ('Rejoinder') to the assessor's comments.
Each electronic proposal contains summary information about the proposal and its participants. Paper copies of the proposals received by the ARC contain additional text which is scanned, converted to a PDF file and linked to the proposal in GAMS. This allows assessors to access a full electronic copy of research proposals.
GAMS provides the maximum 128-bit encryption to encrypt your information. GAMS secured transmission of web pages is indicated by the secured https URL address (http://gams.arc.gov.au/) and the yellow padlock icon located on the footer of your browser window. Please double click on the padlock icon for further information.
GAMS is used by:
a) researchers to complete new proposals and submit them
to their respective administering organisations, access
previous proposals and submit rejoinders if
applicable.
b) administering organisations (Research Office’s)
to check proposals and submit them to the ARC, and to
maintain internal client records.
c) assessors to view proposals and submit assessments to
the ARC.
d) ARC administrators.

Using browser "Back" button
Please do not use the "Back" button in your browser to navigate backwards more than one or two screens. The GAMS database may lose track of your screen sequence. You should use the "Back" button on the GAMS menu bar.
Your role in GAMS
Your role, eg "Applicant" is displayed in the GAMS menu bar just below your GAMS ID. If you have multiple roles in GAMS, (eg. Applicant and Ozreader) you can toggle between these roles using the drop down list.
"My Details" button
When you first log on to GAMS, please click the yellow "My Details" button on the GAMS Menu Bar to check and, if necessary, update your client record. Up-to-date contact details are very important, as the ARC uses this information to contact you. If you have difficulties updating your details, please contact your University’s Research Office in the first instance (if applicable) or email gamsids@arc.gov.au. Please note that only ARC staff can update the "Organisation" field in your GAMS client account.
Changing your password

Your password must be between 5 and 10 characters and cannot be your previous GAMS password. Please note that passwords are case sensitive. Click "Save". A message confirming that you have successfully changed your password will be displayed.
Creating a Research Proposal
The individual, who first creates and edits a research Proposal on GAMS, is the only person who can edit and submit the Proposal and subsequent Rejoinder (if applicable). Other participants listed on a GAMS Proposal can only view the Proposal and rejoinder.
