On 19 September 2013, the ARC was pleased to be visited by Mr. Ou Longxin, Deputy Director General of The CPC Committee in Beijing, Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and 22 other delegates from the academy.

The CAS is the largest national scientific research organisation in China; it is the highest academic institution in natural sciences, a scientific and technological advisory body and a national comprehensive research and development center in natural sciences and technology.

Collaboration with China has been consistently increasing in ARC-funded projects: in 2002 there were 47 instances of collaboration ARC-funded research projects. In 2013 the ARC is (to date) funding 378 new and ongoing research projects that involve collaboration with the China, under eleven different funding schemes.

ARC and the CAS delegation discussed scientific research management systems in Australia, scientific research application and funding support, the Excellence in Research Australia (ERA) initiative, and opportunities for building and enabling collaboration between Chinese and Australian researchers.
