Ranked Conference List Development

Background

For some disciplines, ranked conferences will be used as an indicator. The discipline matrices detail which disciplines will use ranked conferences.

For these disciplines, conferences make up a large proportion of research outputs. For the specified disciplines, it is common to publish quality research in conference publications rather than journals. These disciplines have a large number of regular conferences with editorial and peer review processes which are comparable to those used for high quality journals.

Development of Ranked Conference List

For those disciplines using ranked conferences as an indicator for the full ERA process in 2010, the ARC worked directly with relevant peak bodies and societies to develop, consult on, and finalise the Ranked Conference List. These are:

  • Australian Deans of Built Environment and Design (ADBED)
  • Australian Council of Engineering Deans (ACED)
  • Computer Research in Education (CoRE)

Changes since release of first Ranked Conference List

The ARC released the ERA 2010 Ranked Conference List on 17 December 2009. Since that time, the peak bodies listed above have provided additional information and requested some changes to the conference list. As a result, the Ranked Conference List released in February 2010 contains 62 additional conferences and 98 removed conferences. Refer to the Conference List Change File for details.
