Development of the ERA 2012 Journal List
The ERA 2012 Journal List was developed after two rounds of public comment. It was based on the ERA 2010 Journal List, which was developed over a two year period on the basis of extensive consultation with discipline experts, academic peak bodies and members of the public.
Public Consultation (14 February – 4 April 2011)
During the February-April 2011 consultation period, members of the public were invited to comment on a journal’s eligibility for inclusion in the list; a journal’s bibliographic data; a journal’s assigned rank; and a journal’s Field of Research (FoR) code assignment(s).
The information made available for public consultation was based on the final ERA 2010 Journal List and subsequent information about new journals and changes to journals’ bibliographic details received after the release of the ERA 2010 list.
Members of the public had an opportunity to suggest eligible journals to add to the list until 21 March. These suggestions were made available for the remainder of the public comment period.
On 30 May 2011, the decision not to use ranked outlets for ERA 2012 was announced. As a result, to develop the draft ERA 2012 Journal List, the ARC used all feedback received during the public consultation period, apart from that which concerned ranks.
Release of draft ERA 2012 Journal List for final comment (5 – 19 September 2011)
On 5 September 2011, the draft ERA 2012 Journal List was released to allow for final feedback from stakeholders. Institutions were notified through their ERA Liaison Offices, and members of the public through notices on the ARC website. Individuals were invited to comment on the following aspects of the draft ERA 2012 Journal List:
- A journal’s bibliographic data;
- A journal’s Field of Research (FoR) code assignment(s).
- Whether the journals in the draft list met the eligibility criteria for inclusion in the ERA 2012 Journal List.
Feedback received during the final comment period was used to develop the final ERA 2012 Journal List.
The ERA 2012 Journal List is available for download from the ERA 2012 Journal List page.
