Printable version of Funding Outcomes by Gender—2014 Gender Snapshot report – Excel Format (37KB)

  • Success rates for women exceeded those of men under the Future Fellowships, Australian Laureate Fellowships, Industrial Transformation Training Centres and Linkage Infrastructure, Equipment and Facilities schemes.
  • Success rates for women and men were similar under the Discovery Early Career Researcher Award, Discovery Indigenous and Linkage Projects schemes.
  • The success rate for women at 18.3% was slightly lower than for men at 20.0% under the Discovery Projects scheme and under the ARC Centres of Excellence scheme at 48.8% and 52.3% respectively.
  • Success rates for women Project Leaders are higher than those of men under ARC Centres of Excellence, Industrial Transformation Training Centres and Australian Laureate Fellowships schemes; while the success rates for women and men Project Leaders are similar under the Discovery Projects, Discovery Early Career Researcher Award and Future Fellowships schemes.
  • Women had higher success rates in the two digit Field of Research (FOR) divisions of 07–Agricultural and Veterinary Science, 09–Engineering, 11–Medical and Health Sciences, 12–Built Environment and Design, 14–Economics, 19–Studies in Creative Arts and Writing and 21–History and Archaeology.
  • Across all schemes, the participation rates for women were lower than the rates of men, ranging from 15.6% for Industrial Transformation Training Centres to 44.4% for Discovery Indigenous. Participation continues to be monitored by the ARC.

 Notes

  • The data in this snapshot includes researchers who identified their gender. A very small number of researchers did not provide gender in the ARC database. From 2016 the ARC will be able to report more broadly including data on researchers who identify as female, male, indeterminate/intersex and unspecified.
  • The data in this snapshot reflects proposals with funding commencing in 2014.
  • The information contained in this dataset is limited to that which was current at the time project proposals were approved for funding and accordingly excludes any post-award variations that may subsequently have been approved.
