Examples of new Linkage Projects in 2012 - South Australia

Linkage Projects totalling $3 684 885 covering 15 projects

The University of Adelaide
Smart Bungs for wine monitoring (LP120100483)
Summary: 'Smart Bung' sensors will use optical fibres to monitor wine production using only nano- to microlitre-scale volumes, significantly reducing wastage and improving quality. They will serve as 'early warning devices' and will ensure that Australia's wine industry maintains its outstanding international reputation for excellence and innovation.
Chief Investigator: Professor Tanya M Monro
ARC funding: $405 000

The University of Adelaide
An ethnographic study of obesity risk in a disadvantaged community (LP120100155)
Summary: This project will investigate how families who are seen as 'at risk' of developing obesity respond to Australia's largest obesity intervention, and if messages about healthy eating and increased physical activity are acted upon. Information gathered will provide an important context for what works (and doesn't work) in obesity intervention.
Chief Investigator: Dr Megan J Warin
ARC funding: $162 885

The Flinders University of South Australia
Conservation management of the endangered Pygmy Bluetongue Lizard (LP120100426)
Summary: There is a second chance to rescue a lizard species that was recently considered extinct. This project builds on biological knowledge about the lizard to develop programs for monitoring and maintaining viable populations, to advise landholders of management options, and to inform and involve local communities in conservation action.
Chief Investigator: Professor Christopher M Bull
ARC funding: $510 000

The Flinders University of South Australia
Play it again: creating a playable history of Australasian digital games, for industry, community and research purposes (LP120100218)
Summary: This project provides a unique account of the role played by computer games in familiarising the public to new technologies. The computer game industry grosses billions of dollars each year, yet game technology is quickly superseded. This project redresses this gap by writing histories of the early digital age and preserving key artefacts.
Chief Investigator: Dr Melanie L Swalwell
ARC funding: $186 000
