Improving support for research collaborations
Australian Research Council (ARC) Chief Executive Officer, Professor Margaret Sheil, today called for comment on a proposed new application process for the Linkage Projects scheme.
“Linkage Projects is the main ARC funding scheme to advance research collaborations with end users,” said Professor Margaret Sheil.
“The scheme promotes strong and productive partnerships between higher education organisations and other organisations, including with industry, and encourages investment in research from partner organisations.
“The scheme has been in operation since 2002, and with the Australian Government’s strong research and innovation agenda, it is only natural that the ARC review the scheme to ensure it aligns with today’s priorities to promote the best outcomes for the partners and universities.
“As part of this review, the ARC is proposing to adjust the type of proposals invited in each Linkage Projects funding round by having Round One cater more flexible student awards, and Round Two cater to all other Linkage Projects proposals.
“By awarding research student stipends to universities to administer, partnerships can be initiated throughout the year, rather than waiting for the longer ARC processes.”
“The Consultation Paper also proposes changes to the overall timing of the scheme, with the aim of offsetting the main Linkage Projects round from the Discovery Projects round.”
Researchers, research organisations, potential partner organisations as well as other interested parties are encouraged to submit their views on the proposed changes to the administration of the scheme.
The consultation period is open now and will close at 5 pm (AEDT) on 8 February 2010.
The Consultation Paper and response templates are available on the Linkage Projects Consultation Paper page.
