Over $2.29 million in research funding for 31 ARC International Fellowships

The Minister for Innovation, Industry, Science and Research today announced that 31 Australian researchers will share in funding of $2.29 million under the Linkage International (ARC International Fellowships) scheme.

"The Australian Government is committed to supporting quality research to improve the quality of life for all Australians," Senator Carr said.

"Through the Linkage International (ARC International Fellowships) scheme, the Australian Government is encouraging networks and collaborations between researchers and research teams and research centres of excellence in Australia and overseas."

"These 31 researchers will collaborate with researchers from 28 countries, including Japan, The Netherlands, Spain, the United States and the United Kingdom."

"Their research will produce numerous national and international benefits including, improving the design of human-machine interfaces in both industry and entertainment, providing an insight into the early history of dark energy, and investigating continental temperature and rainfall change during past global warming."

The Linkage International (ARC International Fellowships) scheme is part of the Australian Research Council's National Competitive Grants Program (NCGP). The NCGP nurtures the creative abilities and skills of Australia's most promising researchers.

Applications for NCGP funding are subject to a rigorous, independent peer review process that considers factors such as the researcher's track record and capacity to undertake the work, the significance and innovation of the proposed research, the approach to be taken, training opportunities to be made available, and the national benefit.
