Law and life science expert to advise on research future
The Minister for Innovation, Industry, Science and Research, Senator Kim Carr, has appointed Ms Robyn Baker to the Australian Research Council (ARC) Advisory Council.
Ms Baker is a partner in the Corporate Practice Group of law firm Clayton Utz—focusing on health, aged care, pharmaceuticals, medical devices and biotechnology. She is also on the board of the BioMelbourne Network.
“Ms Baker’s experience and expertise in life sciences and commercial law will make a strong addition to the Council. Her participation will bolster the expert, balanced and independent advice the Council provides the ARC," Senator Carr said.
"I established the independent ARC Advisory Council to advise the ARC CEO on key research issues and strategy to ensure the integrity of Australia’s research funding system.
“I commend the council for their work and am confident that their continued efforts will help ensure that Australian Government support for research continues to foster innovation and creativity.”
The appointment of Ms Baker to the ARC Advisory Council follows the resignation of Dr Elizabeth Jazwinska, now ARC Executive Director of Biological Sciences and Biotechnology.
“Dr Jazwinska has provided great insight and advice to the ARC and Australian Government throughout her time on the ARC Advisory Council,” Senator Carr said.
