Federation Fellowships

New funding for the Federation Fellowships scheme ceased in 2008. However, research organisations which have existing Federation Fellowships Funding Agreements in place will continue to receive funding (as indicated in Schedule A) until their respective project is completed. Any variations to the existing Funding Agreement must be submitted through the Administering Organisation’s Research Office or equivalent.

The Federation Fellowships scheme reflects the Australian Research Council's commitment to support excellence in research by attracting world-class researchers and world-class research leaders to key positions, and creating new rewards and incentives for the application of their talents in Australia.

The Federation Fellowships scheme was open to applications from outstanding researchers of international renown. The scheme particularly encouraged proposals involving Australian and non- Australian researchers working overseas by providing eligible Federation Fellows with Start-up Project Funding in addition to salary and salary-related (on-cost) support.

Preference was given to early- to mid-career researchers who would play a leadership role in building Australia's internationally competitive research capacity.

The Fellowships were available for tenure at Eligible Organisations, including Australian higher education institutions and Australian research organisations that are funded primarily for research from Commonwealth, State or Territory Government sources.

The call for submission of Federation Fellowships proposals was made once a year.
