Work of accomplished mid-career plant researcher recognised by the UWA Vice-Chancellor—15 September 2015
An ARC Centre of Excellence in Plant Energy Biology researcher has been awarded the 2015 University of Western Australia Vice-Chancellor's Mid-Career Research Award. Dr Olivier Van Aken, studies the role of mitochondria and chloroplasts, the energy producing units of a plant cell, during plant responses to stress, "the main aim of my research is to understand how mitochondria and chloroplasts regulate, and are regulated by, stress responses in plants," said Dr Van Aken. "I'm interested in how we can use these systems to increase tolerance towards environmental and pathogen-related stresses in plants." His work forms part of the greater ARC Centre of Excellence in Plant Energy Biology research vision, to enhance plant energy efficiency under changing environments and improve their productivity. The ARC congratulates Dr Van Aken on this award.
