Australian Research Council welcomes new Executive General Manager—Dr Tony Willis

Dr Tony Willis will join the Australian Research Council (ARC) as the ARC’s new Executive General Manager (EGM).

Dr Willis will join the ARC from the Australian Government’s National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) in February 2019.

ARC Chief Executive Officer, Professor Sue Thomas, congratulated Dr Willis on the appointment.

“Dr Willis has served in a senior leadership role as Executive Director, Research Quality and Priorities Branch at the NHMRC, and has a strong background in the research sector,” said Professor Thomas.

“I am confident that Dr Willis’ experience in the Australian Public Service and his background with the NHMRC—a sister agency to the ARC—will be a great asset and will complement the ARC’s existing team overseeing the National Competitive Grants Program, and Excellence in Research for Australia and Engagement and Impact assessments.”

Professor Thomas said that Dr Willis will join a respected team at the ARC who provide high level advice across the ARC’s core functions and discipline areas.

Dr Willis replaces outgoing EGM, Ms Leanne Harvey, who departed the ARC in December 2018, having filled the role since 2008.
