Diverse and experienced panel membership announced for first Engagement and Impact Assessment
Australian Research Council (ARC) Chief Executive Officer, Professor Sue Thomas, has today announced the appointment of 62 panel members for the inaugural round of the Engagement and Impact Assessment 2018 (EI 2018).
Panel members will examine how well universities are engaging with research end-users outside of academia such as industry, government and non-government organisations, as well as how Australian university research is delivering economic, social, environmental and cultural impacts.
“Experts are crucial to the assessment process and I am thrilled that we have some of the very best people to undertake this national exercise—the first of its kind in Australia,” said Professor Thomas.
“Selected from over 400 nominations, panel members are experienced leaders from research, industry and community sectors. They represent diverse research disciplines, end-user sectors and backgrounds.
“I am pleased with the enthusiastic response the ARC has received from industry and community sectors in nominating to participate in the assessment.
“Each panel comprises 30 per cent research end-user representation, which ensures a full range of knowledge, experience and perspectives along the pathway from conducting research through to its translation into real benefits for industry and the wider public.
“I am also delighted to report that the ARC’s commitment to gender balance on our panels is delivering results with women making up 51 percent of the EI 2018 membership overall.
“I am grateful to universities for supporting our efforts by putting forward many excellent female candidates and I hope universities will continue their support for equal representation on ARC panels in the future,” Professor Thomas said.
Experts have been appointed across five assessment panels:
- Social Sciences
- Creative Arts and Humanities
- Science and Technology
- Health and Life Sciences
- Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Research.
The ARC appointed the Chairs of the five EI panels in April 2018.
