World-leading research in Brisbane’s backyard

World-leading research will take place in Brisbane thanks to Morrison Government funding.

The Morrison Government is providing $3.34 million to fund eight research projects at Queensland University of Technology through the Australian Research Council (ARC) Discovery Early Career Researcher Award (DECRA).

Member for Brisbane Trevor Evans congratulated the QUT researchers who will conduct the world-leading research.

“One of the projects will investigate how to reduce road accidents caused when people are distracted by their mobile phone,” Mr Evans said.

“Another project will research how authorities have responded to the rise of technology-enabled domestic violence and what policies and practices are needed to combat it.

“These are world-leading research projects addressing practical and important issues that will make a real difference to Australians.”

Minister for Education Dan Tehan said research done at our universities led to the development of new products and innovations that drive job growth, business opportunities and productivity gains.

“The productive capacity of our nation relies on educated workers, able to access innovation and research, to drive growth and opportunity,” Mr Tehan said.

“Our Government is making a significant investment in Australia’s next generation of researchers working in key priority areas to grow our research and innovation capacity. This research will generate new knowledge, develop new technologies, and lead to new products and jobs. The research targeting natural disasters will make Australians safer and improve how we prepare for future challenges.”

The Morrison Government is providing $81.8 million to fund 200 research projects through the DECRA program.
