World-leading research continues

Australia’s world-leading research continues despite COVID-19, with the Morrison Government today announcing another round of research funding.

Minister for Education Dan Tehan said the Government was providing $10.9 million for 25 new research projects. The funded projects announced today include:

  • $392,445 to investigate why people don’t save enough while they’re working, and spend more when they’re retired. The outcomes will help improve financial capability of Australians and improve communications from superannuation funds. (University of Sydney)
  • $422,092 to improve the teaching of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) subjects in schools through problem-based learning. (Monash University)
  • $519,691 to develop new methods to discover gold-rich mineral deposits in Australia that will deliver more efficient operations and reduce the environmental impact. (The University of Western Australia)

“It is crucial that research continues and our Government continues to fund world-leading research,” Mr Tehan said.

“Researchers are adopting innovative new practices to ensure their research collaborations continue.

“The Government continues to work with the higher education sector to minimise the financial impact of COVID-19 on higher education. We are aware that, like the rest of the Australian and global community, the university sector is not immune from the financial impact of the virus, and that it covers a breadth of people within its communities including professional staff, academics, casual staff, domestic students, and international students.”
