Full article issued by the ARC Research Hub for Basin Geodynamics and Evolution of Sedimentary Systems (ARC Basin GENESIS Hub).

The ARC Basin GENESIS Hub is a five-year Industrial Transformation Research Hub supported by the ARC and five industry partners, aimed at developing and applying next generation computer models to fine-tune our understanding of the structure and evolution of sedimentary basins.

Researchers at the ARC Research Hub have developed open-source and cross-platform GPlates tectonic plate reconstruction software as the enabling engine of their efforts to build and improve global plate tectonic reconstructions, and share these findings with the community. The ARC Research Hub is working with its industry parters to reconstruct, using super-computers available within the National Computational Infrastructure, the formation of large scale features like river deltas and basins, and understand their economic potential in terms of hydrocarbon and mineral resources.
