Commercialising a New Gas Separation Technology—21 April 2017

Discovery Early Career Researcher Award recipient Dr Kevin Li and Professor Eric May, Director at the ARC Training Centre for Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) Futures, have announced that they have secured close to $1 million in funding to commercialise their gas separation technology developed at The University of Western Australia.

The new project is in collaboration with Australian and local Perth company Oilfield Production Technologies and Chinese company DKT Energy Technologies. The funding represents a significant leap forward in commercialising the technology developed by Kevin, Eric and the ARC Training Centre for LNG Futures.

Developing more efficient gas separation technologies has direct application to the development of unconventional gas sources such as coal seam gas (CSG), shale gas and landfill gas, as these gas streams can be the high level of impurities such as carbon dioxide and nitrogen. This new project seeks to further develop new and improved materials such as zeolites and Transition Metal Complexes to separate impurities.

The ARC Training Centre for LNG Futures, an ARC Industrial Transformation Training Centre, was awarded $4.57 million in funding (over 5 years), commencing in 2015.
