With funding of $725,405 through the Australian Research Council’s Linkage Infrastructure, Equipment and Facilities (LIEF) scheme, researchers at the Swinburne University of Technology, led by Professor Peter Newton, will establish the first phase of a nationally networked research collaboration to support smarter urban planning, design and management.

The iHUB facility will provide an integrated digital infrastructure platform for built environment research, synthesis and engagement, targeting a wide range of city stakeholders and end-users previously constrained by bespoke data analytics and visualisation facilities.

The project will also create novel processes for government agencies, practitioners and citizens to engage in more effective decision-making in the planning, design, construction and monitoring of Australia’s rapidly growing metropolitan regions, at scales ranging from cities, towns, and precincts to buildings.
