A project led by Dr Lenore Adie at the Australian Catholic University aims to assess the dependability of teacher judgement using psychometric scaling and online moderation, with $511,658 in new funding from the Australian Research Council’s Linkage Projects scheme.

The project will use an innovative approach to connect achievement standards and judgement-practice for middle-year students in the Australian education system. Partnering with the Federal Department of Education and Training, and the Western Australian School Curriculum and Standards Authority, among others, the project is expected to provide significant benefits in building teachers’ assessment capabilities, shaping policy and teacher preparation.

Expected outcomes include the development of scaled work samples exemplifying A-E standards of achievement, refined methods for the consistency and comparability of assessment decisions, and a new approach to moderating teacher judgements.
