The diversity of ARC employees is one of our greatest strengths. Not only does diversity in the workplace enhance our ability to provide excellent services to our stakeholders and the Australian community, but it also ensures employees are working in a safe and harmonious atmosphere. 

The ARC strives to provide a workplace that is rewarding for all employees. We value the contributions of people with different backgrounds, experiences and perspectives who help us demonstrate our commitment to the Australian Public Service Values, as well as the ARC’s Values of Genuine, Empowering, Fair, Kind, and Trusting.  

By respecting and actively including all aspects of diversity into our usual business, the ARC enables individual employees to achieve successful results in a supportive environment. Our supportive culture allows our employees to bring their entire self to work. Here at the ARC, we strongly encourage a balance between work and personal responsibilities for all our employees.

Diversity and Inclusion Framework 

Our Diversity and Inclusion Framework sets out our commitment to be a leader of cultural change in the workplace and a role model for others. Our aim is to promote the ARC Diversity and Inclusion Principles within our sphere of influence, encouraging diversity and inclusion in our entire network including the research workforce. In this way, the impact and benefits may be realised for individuals and the community beyond the ARC.

Diversity Working Group

The ARC brings together a diverse group of employees with the common goal of improving the work culture of the ARC.

The DWG successfully promotes diversity and inclusion across our organisation. 

The DWG assisted to establish our Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan 2022-2024 and ARC Multicultural and Equity Plan 2018-2019. They also organise many great diversity inspired events, such as:

  • Harmony Day food event
  • Australia Day BBQ and presentation ceremony
  • National Reconciliation Week 
  • NAIDOC Week and Touch Footy team
  • ARC Great Book Swap in support of Indigenous Literacy Day
  • Wear it Purple day celebrating our LGBTIQA+ community

AFL SportsReady Indigenous Trainees

The ARC is very proud of its partnership with AFL SportsReady’s Indigenous Trainee program. The program supports young people to develop their career through a traineeship, studying a Certificate IV in Business (or other relevant area), whilst developing valuable on-the-job experience in a government agency. 

Graduates of the 12-month program have gone on to secure ongoing and non-ongoing positions within the ARC and the APS, as well as entering programs to further their career (such as the Indigenous Australian Government Development Program (IAGDP)). 

Our trainee vacancies are advertised through the AFL SportsReady Jobs Board.

Reconciliation Action Plan

The ARC’s Reconciliation Plan May 2022 to April 2024 (RAP) forms an integral part of our commitment to reconciliation and to supporting and working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples through our key activities.

The RAP details our commitment and actions we will be undertaking over the next two years to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander employees, researchers, research, and reconciliation priorities.
