Mr Mark Field, Coles Supermarkets Australia Pty Ltd

Mr Mark Field, Head of Coles Brand, joined Coles Supermarkets in December 2011. Mr Field brings a wealth of international experience across food manufacturing, food processing, factory design, and the role of own brand within today's fast paced retail sectors. Prior to joining Coles, Mr Field was Group Technical Director for 2 Sisters Food Group (2 SFG) one of Europe's largest protein processors and chilled meal manufacturers. Mr Field’s qualifications include a MSc in Meat Animal Science, University of Bristol, and Graduate Membership to the Institute of Meat. Prior to joining 2 SFG, Mr Field held senior technical roles for RWM Food Group (Hilton Food Group) and Moy Park Poultry (OSI industries). Some of Mr Field’s key European achievements include: technical leadership as the leading European retailers transitioned to centrally packed meat delivering a strategic change in the retail meat offer, technical guidance through the major food scares of the 90s including Sudan red, BSE, e.coli and foot and mouth, a founder member of the UK Bio security working Group, a cross functional retailer forum with the FSA on campylobacter in poultry and an industrial lead in the Major EU project on meat eating quality. Some of Mr Field’s Australian key achievements include: the delivery of sow stall free pork, sustainable seafood, RSPCA poultry, sustainable palm oil and delivering an own brand portfolio free from artificial colours and flavours. Published science papers include the ‘Lack of evidence for stress being caused to pigs by witnessing the slaughter of conspecifics’. Mr Field is an experienced international technical leader with a detailed knowledge of food manufacturing, retailing, brand strategy and consumer focused who will bring significant expertise to the ARC.
