List of October 2019 enhancements for Research Outputs within the User profile and the application ROPE question.

The ARC appreciated the feedback received from the research sector on the Outputs function over the last 12 months and has implemented a number of enhancements.

User Profile – Manage Research Outputs

  • Invalid Research Outputs will now be included in the ORCID import, but will display in red text on the Manage Outputs screen so that applicants can easily identify them and correct the source data. They will not render into the PDF or populate into a research application until corrected. [Outputs User Guide: Section 1.2]
  • Ability to enter unspecified citations only for Additional Research output type directly into RMS (Date and Text). [Outputs User Guide: Section 4.1.1]
  • Ability to enter Editor/s separately from authors when adding a research output manually. Editors previously entered manually as free text should display and in read only mode. [Outputs User Guide: Section 4.2.1]
  • We have removed the “CI or equivalent” field from the “Additional Details screen in both Manage Outputs and the application ROPE Question. The ARC will only retain this data where it exists on submitted applications.  However, it is no longer required for new applications.  [Outputs User Guide: Section 5.1]
  • Ability to convert an existing ORCID record output to ORCID+: If a DOI exists for the output, a tab “Use DOI reference” will display below the output - the user can click on this tab and the output details will refresh from Crossref or Crosscite. [Outputs User Guide: Section 6.1.2]
  • PDF Preview of citations is now available within the Manage Research Outputs screen of the user profile by selecting outputs and clicking the PDF button (previously this was only available within the research application). The Maximum number of Authors to include in the PDF can also be set. [Outputs User Guide: Section 6.3]

Additions to imports and improvements to display/rendering

  • The Citation Article Number for Referred Journal Articles is now included in the import from ORCID, BibTeX or DOI, and the field is also available for manually entered outputs. The article number will display in the research proposal ROPE question and in the PDF.
  • The Book Edition is now included in the import from ORCID, BibTeX or DOI, and the field is also available for manually entered outputs. The Book Edition will display in the research proposal ROPE question and in the PDF.
  • The field Book Title has been updated to Conference Outlet Title for the Fully Refereed Conference Proceeding citation type.
  • Mathjax is removed: This means that math symbols like any other scientific symbols will not render in the RMS screens at all.  However, they are to be rendered in the PDF.  [Outputs User Guide: Section 4.1]
  • The author name list will now display the same as the source data for all authors as entered by the user. This applies to both Manage Research Outputs and the ROPE question in the application.

We have updated the Outputs User Guide to reflect the above changes.

Changes to the Rope Question within applications

  • A live count of the number of outputs attached to the ROPE question – the count updates as the user adds or removes outputs.
  • Research Outputs generated in the proposal PDFs now include Output Type for the 10 best publications. (In brackets at the end of each output)

The Scheme instructions cover these changes in more detail.
