Deputy Chief Executive Officer Anthony Murfett joined the ARC as Deputy CEO in January 2026. Before this appointment, Anthony held senior leadership roles at the Department of Industry, Science and Resources, most recently as Head of the International Strategy and National Security Division. He previously led the Technology and Digital Division, where he oversaw advice to government on artificial intelligence, as well the development of the National Quantum Strategy and National Robotics Strategy. He was also responsible for policy advice on critical technology policy. Anthony played a pivotal role in establishing the Australian Space Agency, serving as its inaugural Deputy Head with responsibility for strategy, policy and operations. Earlier in his career, he was posted overseas as Minister Counsellor (Industry, Science and Education) at the Australian Embassy in Washington DC, strengthening international engagement in innovation, science and research. Anthony holds a Bachelor of Applied Science (Biotechnology) from Queensland University of Technology and a Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Immunology from the Australian National University. He is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and has completed the Senior Executive Fellows Program at the Harvard Kennedy School of Government.
