Date: 3 September 2026 In support of the Australian National Persistent Identifier (PID) Strategy, the ARC has published an updated PID Action Plan. The 2026 update to the PID Action Plan highlights progress towards each of the following 5 Actions: Goal 1: ARC grants have a Digital Object Identifier (DOI) which is anticipated to be implemented in the upcoming Industry Transformation Research Program rounds (IC27 & IH27) and will be continued through all schemes moving forward. Goal 2: All Administering Organisations applying for an ARC grant have a Research Organisation Registry (ROR) identifier. This project is now complete. Goal 3: All named personnel have an Open Researcher and Contributor ID (ORCID) and supply it during the establishment phase of ARC awarded grants. This project has been finalised, and it is anticipated be implemented for the Transformation Research Program 2027 rounds (IC27 & IH27), Future Fellowships 2027 (FT27) and Discovery Projects 2028 (DP28) scheme rounds. Goal 4: ARC’s Research Management System (RMS) ORCID integration ‘writes’ back to ORCID. This project is still progressing with implementation anticipated in 2027. Goal 5: ARC has a FAIR Data Policy. The ARC is currently seeking sector feedback on a draft FAIR Data Policy; it is anticipated that the policy will be finalised in 2026 for implementation in 2027. The update also outlines the following new actions that the ARC commits to progressing: Goal 6: All named personnel to supply their ORCID at application. Goal 7: ARC to encourage Administering Organisations to mint Research Activity Identifiers (RAiDs) and provide RAiDs, where they exist, to the ARC. Goal 8: All ARC policy documents have an Identifier (DOI) and use DOIs where available for any work cited in policy documents. Goal 9: ARC to use DOIs provided in project final reports to match outputs to open datasets. Goal 10: ARC to facilitate public acknowledgment of the service of members of the College of Experts in their ORCID profile. For more information, please see the ARC PID Action Plan.
