The Forecast Opportunity for Discovery Projects for funding commencing in 2028 (DP28) is now available on GrantConnect:

DP28 will operate under the Discovery Program: Discovery Projects Grant Opportunity Guidelines (2026 edition) (Guidelines).

As previously communicated, the updated Guidelines introduce new Chief Investigator (CI) application limits and return Discovery Projects to a single-stage application process, removing the Expressions of Interest (EOI) stage. The request not to assess (RNTA) and rejoinder processes have also been removed, with more detailed feedback to be provided to applicants. Further information about these changes is available in the ARC’s earlier announcement.

The updated Guidelines also require all named participants to have a persistent digital identifier, such as an Open Researcher and Contributor Identifier (ORCID), recorded in their Research Management System (RMS) profile before the project commences. Please refer to the updated Guidelines when considering eligibility and preparing an application.

Applications for DP28 will open in RMS on Monday 1 February 2027. In response to sector feedback, the ARC has revised the DP28 closing date to Tuesday 11 May 2027. Key dates, including Important Dates, for this scheme are available via the NCGP Scheme Calendar available on the ARC website.
