Intellectual Property Policy

The ARC Intellectual Property Policy outlines how intellectual property (IP) arising from ARC-funded research should be managed to maximise benefits for Australia while supporting collaboration and innovation.

The policy:

  • defines the ARC’s approach to IP management under the National Competitive Grants Program
  • emphasises that IP ownership is determined by participating organisations
  • promotes collaboration between universities, industry, and government to enhance research impact
  • encourages access, sharing, protection, and commercialisation of IP where appropriate
  • requires compliance with funding agreements, national IP principles, and responsible research standards
  • aims to maximise the practical, economic, and societal benefits of publicly funded research
