Driving Australia's Digital Manufacturing Future: New ARC Research Hub Launches

ARC Executive Director Professor Alison Ross (second from left) attends the official launch of the ARC Industrial Transformation Research Hub for Future Digital Manufacturing.

This cutting-edge ARC Research Hub will work to support the Australian digital manufacturing sector’s transition to smarter, more connected systems. It will work closely with industry to create novel commercialisation and adoption pathways for technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) to the Internet of Things (IoT) – which connects our everyday devices, enabling them to communicate autonomously.

The Digital Manufacturing Hub’s work will be critical for the development of a wide range of digital technologies, from AI-powered tools that will significantly increase the quality of texture-modified food for vulnerable Australians, to advanced structural health monitoring and predictive maintenance for the aerospace industry.

ARC Executive Director, Professor Alison Ross, said that the Research Hub will play a pivotal role in advancing Australia’s digital manufacturing industry.

‘By harnessing the power of AI and IoT technologies, the Digital Manufacturing Hub is set to enhance the efficiency and resilience of our production processes,’ Professor Ross said.

The Hub’s research program is aligned with the federal government’s Future Made in Australia Agenda which focuses on promoting sovereign, smart and sustainable advanced manufacturing, driving digital transformation in local industries, making manufacturing more competitive and resilient, and ensuring Australia’s digital and technology capability.

Through a highly collaborative approach bringing together researchers and industry, the Research Hub will build the skills and solutions needed to position Australia at the forefront of a rapidly evolving Industry 4.0 landscape.

‘The Digital Manufacturing Hub will play a crucial role in training the next generation of research professionals, ensuring Australia’s leadership in global manufacturing,’ said Professor Ross.
