In support of the Australian National Persistent Identifier (PID) Strategy, the ARC are increasing our use of Persistent Identifiers (PIDs). PIDs are unique alpha-numeric codes that provide global methods to identify and connect entities such as researchers, funders, organisations, publications, and projects. The ARC’s increased use of PIDs will reduce duplication of research, improve researcher accountability and research reproducibility, and is critical to increasing the quality of data available to the ARC for any future research evaluation exercises. The ARC will commence work on the goals of the ARC PID Action Plan in 2025 with all projects expected to be completed by the end of 2026. The PID Action Plan has five goals: Goal 1: ARC grants have a Digital Object Identifier (DOI) Goal 2: All Administering Organisations applying for an ARC grant have a Research Organisation Registry (ROR) identifier Goal 3: All named personnel have an Open Researcher and Contributor ID (ORCID) and supply it during the establishment phase of ARC awarded grants Goal 4: ARC’s Research Management System (RMS) ORCID integration ‘writes’ back to ORCID Goal 5: ARC has a FAIR Data PolicyPID Action Plan
