New ARC College of Expert members appointed for 2023

The Australian Research Council (ARC) has appointed 94 new members to the ARC College of Experts for 2023, each to play an important part in assessing research proposals for funding under the National Competitive Grants Program (NCGP).

Comprising a total of 269 members in 2023, the ARC College of Experts plays a key role in identifying research excellence, moderating external assessments of research grant proposals and recommending projects to be funded.

The ARC College of Experts is made up of a wide range of experienced and highly qualified people of international standing, drawn from academia, industry, and public sector research organisations.

ARC Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Judi Zielke PSM said the new members would ensure the continuing effectiveness of the ARC College of Experts.

“I welcome the new members to the ARC College of Experts, who with existing members ensure diversity across disciplines, gender balance, and representation from small and large Australian universities,” Ms Zielke said.

“I am pleased that the College continues to have such strong representation, from a very competitive field of applicants.”

The College meets throughout the year to review and assess the numerous ARC proposals submitted through the NCGP, providing valuable advice and perspective, and making funding recommendations on proposals across varied discipline areas.

“The College members have a critical role in the competitive grant process,” Ms Zielke said.

“They apply their expertise, experience, and judgement in selecting the final funding recommendations from research proposals, following the preliminary ranking by the ARC’s community of external assessors.

“I would like to thank the outgoing College of Experts members for their time, effort, and commitment to the ARC’s peer review process, because they have made a significant contribution to the continued advancement of Australian research.”

Full membership of the 2023 ARC College of Experts is available on the ARC Website.
